Postby Martijn » Tue Nov 03, 2009 10:10 pm

Hi all,

We at 100-downloads.com are glad to announce the birth of a great, free tool to watch the web for things you're looking for. WWWatchdog will keep an eye open, even when you are asleep. If he finds something important, he wakes you up barking and is even smart enough to send you an email to inform you, wherever you are.

Never miss a concert ticket of your favorite artist anymore, and allways be the first to know that something you have been looking for for ages is put on auction! Knowledge is power, and with this versatile tool you'll have that knowlegde earlier than anyone else!

The first screen shows our valued WWWatchdog and a short description about the usage of the program. Once configured, you can use it directly from here. You will need to configure some settings at first use, which you can find on the several tabs.

Fill in the search terms in the left hand column. Whatever you fill in here has to be in the web page in EXACTLY THE SAME ORDER to provide a result. Adding more words will give you less results, but the results you get will me more accurate. E.g. Britney will yield more than Britney Spears, but Spears Britney will probably not give you any results at all. Fill in at least 3 characters to perform a search!
In the right hand column, you can fill in the URLs of the web pages you want to monitor. Caution: LINKS WILL NOT BE FOLLOWED, so monitor a whole website by filling in only the URL of the homepage will not work! Fill in the separate URLs instead. WWWatchdog is not picky; he also loves to chew pages with SSL encryption (starting with https://) and RSS feeds as well.

Everything WWWatchdog finds four you, will be presented here. You can see what was found, as well as when and where.

All settings are optional, but they will help the search process. The most important one is the time between the searches. The default setting is 15 minutes, but you can choose between 1 minute and 24 hours. Check the option Send an email alert if you want to receive an email warning. You can check if the email settings are correct by pushing the button Test email. In Windows XP you can also set the option to start the program automatically when Windows starts. FOR WINDOWS VISTA AND WINDOWS 7, SEE THE PART PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS! The option Bark when result is found, should speak for itself :)

PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS
In the unlikely case WWWatchdog doesn't do what he was rewarded for with a bone, a short education will help - hopefully. The most common problem is that you are wakened by his loud barking, while there's noting relevant to see on the page. This is because WWWatchdog doesn't see the difference between things you can read on a page and hidden code that was used, like Javascript. The opposite is also possible: the text is clearly visible on the page, but no result at all. This can be caused by web techniques like Flash of frames. Finding text within these elements is not possible (yet).
You have to be working under an account with Administrator rights in order to use this program. If you try to start it when you have insufficient rights, you will be told so.
In case you don't receive an email while the option is enabled and all settings have been checked and double checked, please check your Spam folder in you email client.
Do you use Windows Vista or Windows 7? DON'T INSTALL THIS PROGRAM IN THE PROGRAM FILES FOLDER! The default security settings of Windows won't let this software work properly.
In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the option Start automatically with Windows does not always work (depending on the so called Security settings). To work around this, create a shortcut that points to to ‘C:\WWWatchdog\WWWatchdog.exe -winstart’ and place this shortcut in the Windows Startup folder. WWWatchdog will automatically start minimized and only show a pop-up if a result was found.
